Il presidente del Consiglio europeo, Donald Tusk, ha annunciato che si raccomanderà affinché il Consiglio approvi l’accordo Ue-Regno Unito sulla Brexit. “Durante questi negoziati, nessuno voleva sconfiggere nessuno. Eravamo tutti alla ricerca di un accordo valido ed equo. E credo che abbiamo finalmente trovato il miglior compromesso possibile. Alla luce di quanto sopra, raccomanderò che domenica venga approvato l’esito dei negoziati sulla Brexit. E anche se nessuno avrà motivo di essere felice in quel giorno, c’è una cosa che vorrei sottolineare: in questo momento critico, l’UE a 27 ha superato la prova dell’unità e della solidarietà”, ha detto Tusk.

La settimana scorsa, Londra e Bruxelles hanno finalmente completato un progetto di accordo sulla Brexit dopo oltre un anno di negoziati. Domenica, i leader dell’Ue a 27 dovrebbero approvare il progetto di accordo.

European Council President Donald Tusk said on Saturday that on November 25 he would recommend that the council approves the recently reached EU-UK agreement on Brexit.

“During these negotiations, no-one wanted to defeat anyone. We were all looking for a good and fair agreement. And I believe that we have finally found the best possible compromise. Given all of the above, I will recommend that on Sunday we approve the outcome of the Brexit negotiations. And although no-one will have reasons to be happy on that day, there is one thing I would like to stress: at this critical time, the EU27 has passed the test of unity and solidarity,” Tusk said.

Last week, London and Brussels finally completed a draft agreement on Brexit after more than a year of negotiations. On Thursday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May defended a draft Brexit deal in the House of Commons despite the wide criticism of the agreement.

On Sunday, the EU27 leaders are expected to endorse the draft Brexit deal, including the withdrawal agreement and the declaration on the future EU-UK relations.
