South Korean and North Korean officials met on the northern side of the truce village of Panmunjom on Thursday to hold working-level talks on cross-border road connection as a follow-up to the agreements reached between the two countries at a historic summit in April, media reported, citing South Korea’s Unification Ministry. The Yonhap news agency reported on Monday that Seoul and Pyongyang planned to start a series of talks this week on bilateral economic projects, including rail, road and forestry cooperation. The meeting between the South Korean delegation, led by Vice Transport Minister Kim Jeong-ryeol, and the delegation from North Korea, headed by Pak Ho-yong, the vice minister for land and environmental protection, lasted for less than half an hour, according to the agency. Subsequent meetings are likely to follow, with the sides expected to discuss the modernization of cross-border roads, the agency reported. On April 27, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met at Panmunjom, where they signed a joint declaration agreeing to renew economic cooperation in several areas, including rebuilding cross-border railways and roads.
