The Syrian constitutional commission, comprising 150 members, will be launched before the end of this year, Vitaly Naumkin, Russian adviser to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, told Sputnik. “I think that it [launch of the constitutional commission] will take place this year, I am 100 percent sure about it,” Naumkin said on the sidelines of the Development of Parliamentarism international forum in Moscow. The official noted that the United Nations had received two lists of candidates to the commission – from the Syrian government and civic groups. “Serious negotiations are underway now, they concern the third part of the commission – there is one list of candidates, these are people representing the government of Syria … It is headed by lawyers, experts from the government, not the delegation that negotiated in Geneva. There are two lists of 50 people. The second list is from civic groups, which has also been approved by Damascus … The third part is the opposition. There are some internal issues regarding the opposition. The list is about to be submitted, I do not know whether the office in Geneva has received it,” Naumkin said.
