The number of Palestinians killed in the latest clashes with the Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip border has increased to 61, Palestinian Healthcare Ministry spokesman Ashraf Qidra told Sputnik on Tuesday. Mass protests erupted in Gaza in light of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel and the opening of the Israeli embassy in Jerusalem on Monday. Palestinian Health Ministry said earlier that 59 Palestinians had been killed and over 2,700 injured by the Israeli forces. “A 16-year-old Palestinian, who was injured yesterday in clashes with the Israeli army, died in the hospital, the number of Palestinians killed since yesterday increased to 61, and [the total death toll] from March 30 [increased] to 109,” Qidra said. Since March 30, Palestinians have been holding mass rallies near the Gaza Strip border, known as the Great March of Return. The clashes between the Palestinian rioters and the Israeli forces in Gaza intensified on Monday amid the opening ceremony of the US embassy in Jerusalem. On Monday, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas declared a three-day mourning to commemorate the Palestinian victims of Monday protests in Gaza.
