Far-right presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen is projected to receive the most votes, 24.5 percent to be exact, in the first round of the upcoming French election despite losing half a point since the previous forecast release, a poll showed on Thursday. According to the Ifop poll, independent Emmanuel Macron, who also dropped 0.5 percent since Wednesday’s poll, is projected to come out of the first round in second place with 24 percent of the votes. Center-right Francois Fillon is seen gaining an additional 0.5 percent of the potential votes, but so is left-wing Jean-Luc Melenchon. The two nominees now stand to receive 18.5 and 16.5 percent of the projected votes, respectively. The projection for Benoit Hamon, the candidate of the Socialist Party, remained the same at 9.5 percent, as was seen in Wednesday’s poll. The first round of the French presidential election is slated for April 23, while the run-off is expected to take place on May 7.
