“The Hipster Project” is a jazz band composed of international artists from Belgium and Italy, who work together to develop a unique sound and performance. They draw inspiration from the Hard-Bop period when on the U.S. East Coast artists such as B. Golson, A. Blakey, H. Silver and S. Rollins composed and performed in the “Hard-Bop” style, developed in response to the West Coast’s “Cool Sound”. “The Hipster Project” (Federico Mansutti, trumpet; Angelo Gregorio, tenor sax ; Julien Gillain, piano; Nicolas Puma, double bass; Lucas Vanderputten, drums) takes some of the most brilliant pieces of this extraordinarily vast “natural catalogue,” selected from the repertoire of Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Jazz Messenger and Chick Corea, and plays them together with some pieces either written or arranged by the band itself. After touring Italy last summer, the band will perform at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Brussels on February 24, 2017.
