Il direttore della CIA Mike Pompeo ha smentito le notizie di stampa secondo cui l’agenzia avrebbe nascosto informazioni di intelligence al presidente in carica degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump. “Compito della CIA è fornire al presidente la migliore intelligence possibile nonché spiegare le basi della stessa. La CIA non nasconde, hamai nascosto né nasconderà mai l’intelligence al presidente. Punto”, ha detto Pompeo giovedì. Il direttore della CIA ha sottolineato che i media non avevano fornito alcuna prova a sostegno delle loro accuse. “Non siamo a conoscenza di alcun caso in cui ciò sia avvenuto. La storia del Wall Street Journal è del tutto sbagliato e mette in discussione l’integrità di migliaia di funzionari dei servizi segreti spacciando pettegolezzi, senza citare un solo esempio a sostegno delle proprie affermazioni”, ha aggiunto.

The CIA does not, has not, and will never hide intelligence from the President, period,” Pompeo said in a statement on Thursday. The CIA director pointed out that the media had not provided any evidence to substantiate its unfounded allegations. “We are not aware of any instance when that occurred. The Wall Street Journal story is dead wrong and impugns the integrity of thousands of professional intelligence officers by peddling gossip without citing a single example to support its claims,” Pompeo added. On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed officials, that certain pieces of intelligence information were being kept from Trump for fear that the data may be leaked or compromised.
