La compagnia petrolifera pubblica messicana Pemex ha avviato un’indagine interna sul presunto coinvolgimento del suo top manager nello scandalo per corruzione relativo alla società brasiliana di costruzioni Odebrecht. A dicembre, il Dipartimento di Giustizia Usa ha dichiarato che Odebrecht era colpevole di aver pagato $ 788 milioni in tangenti a funzionari governativi in tutta l’America Latina per garantirsi le commesse. Il dipartimento ha affermato che l’azienda ha corrotto funzionari del governo messicano con 10,5 milioni di dollari; in questo ambito un alto dirigente Pemex avrebbe ricevuto 6 milioni di dollari. “Per quanto riguarda le indagini che circondano l’azienda Odebrecht, Pemex ribadisce il suo impegno a seguirla fino alle ultime conseguenze, agendo prontamente e adeguandosi alla legge. L’Unità di Responsabilità di Pemex, che è una dipendenza del Ministero della Funzione Pubblica, ha avviato un’indagine per determinare se la tangente sia stato dato a funzionari di questa azienda statale”, si legge in una nota del gruppo.

Lo scandalo ha già innescato indagini in Colombia, Messico, Perù, Panama, Repubblica Dominicana, Venezuela, Cile, Argentina, Guatemala ed Ecuador. Mexican state-run petroleum company Pemex has launched an internal investigation into the alleged involvement of its top manager into the corruption scandal surrounding Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, the company said in a statement. In December, the US Department of Justice stated that Odebrecht was guilty of having paid $788 million in bribes to government officials throughout Latin America to secure contracts. The department claimed that the company bribed Mexican government officials to the sum of $10.5 million, of which one of the top managers of Pemex allegedly received $6 million. “Regarding the investigations surrounding the company Odebrecht, Pemex reaffirms its commitment to follow it to the last consequences, acting promptly and adhering to legality … From this, the Responsibility Unit of Pemex, which is a dependency of the Ministry of Public Functions, initiated an investigation to determine whether the bribe was given to officials of this State productive company,” the company’s statement read on Thursday. The corruption scandal has already triggered investigations in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Guatemala and Ecuador.
