Il presidente siriano Bashar Assad si è detto completamente contrario alla visita degli osservatori di Amnesty International in Siria. “No, non lasceremo Amnesty venire qui. In nessun caso e per nessuna ragione”, ha detto Assad a Radio Europe1 in un’intervista. Si tratta di una questione di sovranità nazionale, ha aggiunto. “Lei sarebbe d’accordo se una delegazione siriana venisse qua per esaminare i motivi per cui sotto la presidenza di, in primo luogo, [Nicolas] Sarkozy, e quindi di [Francois] Hollande, l’esercito ha attaccato i libici e ucciso decine o centinaia o migliaia di loro?”, ha risposto il presidente alla domanda sulla possibilità della visita degli osservatori. Il 7 febbraio, Amnesty International ha pubblicato un rapporto che accusa le autorità siriane di aver ucciso 13.000 persone nel carcere di Saydnaya. Amnesty International è stato criticata per pregiudizio e per mancanza di prove.

The Amnesty International has been criticized for bias and lack of evidence in its reports. In December 2016, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the materials the organization used while compiling its reports lacked “a deep expert analysis” and could not be called the actual data.
