Le Nazioni Unite hanno perso quasi tre dozzine di propri operatori lo scorso anno in tutto il mondo a causa di attacchi deliberati. Lo ha affermato il vice portavocw del segretario generale dell’Onu, Farhan Haq. “Il Comitato permanente per la sicurezza e l’indipendenza del Servizio Civile Internazionale dell’Unione del personale delle Nazioni Unite – ha dichiarato – dice che almeno 32 membri Onu sono stati uccisi in attacchi deliberati nel 2016”. Haq ha spiegato la maggior parte delle vittime sono delle forze di pace, ma ci sono anche due guardie di sicurezza, un membro del personale civile e un imprenditore. Il portavoce ha osservato che per il terzo anno consecutivo, il più grande numero di morti è stato registrato in Mali, dove almeno 23 appartenenti alle Nazioni Unite hanno perso la vita. Allo stato attuale, l’Onu ha 16 operazioni di pace in corso in tutto il mondo, guidate dal suo dipartimento per le Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).

The United Nations lost nearly three dozen of its personnel last year around the world as a result of deliberate attacks, UN Secretary-General deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said at a briefing on Tuesday. “The Standing Committee for the Security and Independence of the International Civil Service of the UN Staff Union says that at least 32 UN personnel were killed in deliberate attacks in 2016,” Haq stated. Haq explained most of the casualties of UN peacekeepers, but also include two security guards, one civilian staff member and one contractor. The deputy spokesman noted that for the third year in a row, the biggest number of deaths was recorded in Mali, where at least 23 UN personnel lost their lives. At present, the United Nations has 16 peacekeeping operations around the globe led by its Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
