Le autorità ucraine avrebbero pianificato la recente escalation del conflitto nella regione di Donbass per farla coincidere con le riunioni del presidente ucraino Petro Poroshenko con i politici occidentali, tra cui il cancelliere tedesco Angela Merkel. Lo ha riferito una fonte diplomatica militare di Mosca a Sputnik. “L’analisi della situazione intorno allo stabilimento ucraino di Avdiivka ci porta alla conclusione che la rapida escalation della situazione era stato premeditato dalle autorità del Paese. Non è una mera coincidenza che l’aggravamento della situazione abbia coinciso con gli incontri ad alto livello previsti per il 30 e il 31 gennaio (e cioè gli incontri con il cancelliere tedesco Angela Merkel, il Ministro della difesa lituano Raimundas Karoblis e ministro degli esteri danese Anders Samuelsen)”, ha riferito la fonte che sottolinea come Kiev abbia voluto spostare la responsabilità per la crisi umanitaria nella regione su Mosca. Negli ultimi giorni si sono intensificati gli scontri tra le forze di Kiev con le forze di Donetsk che hanno lasciato la popolazione senza acqua, riscaldamento ed elettricità. La missione Osce in Ucraina ha rilevato l’impiego dell’uso di armi vietate lungo la linea di contatto nella regione meridionale di Donbass in particolare presso le città di Avdiivka e Yasinovataya. Kiev ha iniziato nel 2014 un’operazione militare in quei territori che si sono rifiutati di riconoscere il nuovo governo ucraino. Nel 2015, le parti hanno raggiunto un accordo di cessate il fuoco a Minsk dopo negoziati mediati dai presidenti di Russia, Ucraina, Francia e Germania che prevede tra l’altro il bando delle armi pesanti

Ukrainian authorities had planned the recent escalation of conflict in Donbas in advance, in order to coincide with meetings of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko with western politicians, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a military diplomatic source in Moscow told Sputnik. “Analysis of the situation around the [Ukrainian] Avdiivka settlement brings us to the conclusion that the rapid escalation of the situation had been premeditated by the Ukrainian leadership. It is not a mere coincidence that the aggravation of the situation coincided with high-level meetings the Ukrainian side had planned for January 30-31 (meetings with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Lithuanian Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis and Danish Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen),” the source said. The source added that these steps of the Ukrainian side showed that Kiev wanted to shift responsibility for the humanitarian crisis in Avdiivka on the Russian side. The situation in southeastern Ukraine has escalated over the past few days, in particular near the town of Avdiivka, where clashes between Kiev forces and the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) militia have intensified. The clashes have left local residents without water supply, central heating and electricity amid freezing temperatures. Both conflicting parties have accused each other of initiating the violence. On Monday, monitors from the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (SMM) said they registered the use of banned heavy weaponry along the contact line in southern Donbas region. According to the SMM Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug, the number of truce violations by both sides rose near the towns of Avdiivka and Yasinovataya. Kiev began a military operation against DPR and neighboring People’s Republic of Luhansk (LPR) in 2014, when the two refused to recognize the new Ukrainian government that came to power after a coup. In 2015, the two sides reached a ceasefire agreement in Minsk after the negotiations brokered by the presidents of Russia, Ukraine and France, as well as by the German chancellor. The Minsk accord included withdrawal of heavy weaponry from the contact line in eastern Ukraine among other provisions.
