More than 100 houses were destroyed on Monday in an earthquake that hit the northwestern Turkish province of Canakkale, local media reported. Earlier in the day, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported about a 5.2-magnitude earthquake near the Turkish western coast. According to Turkish broadcaster NTV, the tremor had destroyed a total of 102 houses near the Turkish city of Ayvacik. The tremors were recorded at 03:51 GMT. The epicenter of the quake was centered 16 miles to the west of Ayvacik and some about 97 miles to the northwest of the Izmir city. Later in the day, seismological agencies have recorded some aftershocks.
