Il ministro degli esteri russo, Sergey Lavrov è stato invitato dal suo omologo venezuelano, Delcy Rodriguez a visitare il Paese nel corso del 2017. “Abbiamo fatto a nome del presidente Maduro un invito per il presidente Putin a ricevere il premio Chavez che il presidente del Venezuela ha ritenuto di assegnargli”, ha detto Rodriguez in una conferenza stampa a Mosca. Previsto inoltre per oggi l’incontro tra il ministro russo dell’Energia Alexander Novak sul prezzo del petrolio. Nel corso dell’incontro tra Lavrov e Rodriguez, il ministro russo ha confermato il sostegno di Mosca al paese che attraversa un momento difficile a causa della mancanza di cibo e medicine, con un’inflazione galoppante ed entrate in calo a causa dei bassi prezzi del petrolio. In ottobre 2016, Maduro ha creato un premio per la pace intitolato all’ex leader del Paese, Hugo Chavez e lo ha assegnato a Putin.

Russian Foreign Minster Sergey Lavrov has been invited by his Venezuelan counterpart Delcy Rodriguez to visit the country in 2017. “We have also brought the address of President [Nicolas] Maduro with an invitation for President [Vladimir] Putin to come and receive Hugo Chavez peace prize and confirmed the invitation for Foreign Minster Lavrov to visit us this year,” Rodriguez said at a press conference. Earlier in the day, Lavrov said that Rodriguez was expected to meet with Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak later on Monday to discuss oil market stabilization steps. The Russian foreign minster expressed support for the Venezuelan government amid unstable situation in the country marked by food and medicine shortages, rampant inflation and falling government revenues due to low oil prices. In October 2016, Maduro created a peace prize named after former leader Hugo Chavez and awarded it to Putin.
