Indonesia will continue to be an important and strategic partner of the United States under the new US presidential administration, US Ambassador in Jakarta Joseph Donovan said Monday. “Although I cannot predict the future, I can tell you that your country [Indonesia] will remain an important and strategic partner of the United States,” Donovan said, as quoted by the Jakarta Globe newspaper, speaking about the prospects of bilateral ties under the US presidency of Donald Trump. Donovan added that during the tenure the diplomat would focus on development of trade and investment between the two nations. Washington and Jakarta established diplomatic relations in 1949 and had cooperated on various issues since then.
