Working-level representatives from Cuba and the United States will meet this week to discuss the fight against human trafficking, the US Department of State said in a press release. “The United States and Cuba will hold a meeting to coordinate their efforts to fight trafficking in persons in Washington, D.C., January 12 and 13,” the release stated on Wednesday. US representatives from the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Health and Human Services will also be present at the meeting, the release added. In a 2015 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, the US State Department concluded that while Cuba did not fully comply with minimum standards to eliminate trafficking, it was making significant efforts to achieve that goal. The upcoming meeting will be the fourth exchange between the United States and Cuba on efforts to prevent and prosecute trafficking in persons and protect trafficking victims, the release said.
